Description: An island surrounded by time, which here seems to be stopped, offering many different landscapes that are chasing eachother . Fertile valleys, ancient ports, high mountains, extinct craters,amazing canyons and black beaches of volcanic origin, are border to lush farmland. The mountains are appreciated by the lover of extreme sports, while the sea, offers nuemrose possibility. The traditions are very deeply rooted in this island and it is very easy to find in some corners some popular party with people dancing. Very special period of the carnival parades that offers wagon accompanied by music and dancing. The beaches here are not among the most beautiful, but of course we suggest to see them also because offers a lot of fish.
The roads are not a lot and to moving we still recommended to use taxis or rent a car with a driver. The western part of the island is the most welcome and consequently the most populated. All the small villages are here and there are few roads that link them. The subsoil of the island is very rich in water and very often you will see people carrying water from the pump to their own home.
Directions: Preguica The airport is 5 km from Ribeira Brava, receives domestic flights of the TACV daily from Praia and Sal and four times a week from / to Sao Vicente. The journey by taxi to Ribeira Brava coast 500/700 ECV and ECV 100 public transport. The port of São Nicolau, located in Tarrafal receives twice a week, the ferry "Sotavento and Barlavento (currently inactive)" from Mindelo and Sal. The ferry "Tarrafal" is heading to Santiago twice a week.
What to see: Ribeira Brava: It's a very attractive city, with colonial type houses painted in different color. Miradouro em Cachaça : Located in what is called "Camino Novo", offers a beautiful view over the valley of Ribeira Brava and the city.
