More European boats allowed to fish in Cape Verde

The new agreement on tuna fishing between Cape Verde and the European Union (EU), which will take effect on 1 November, authorizes most of the European vessels to fish in CV national waters. The proposal was approved on Tuesday in Strasbourg. The new agreement, according to the EU will have a duration of three years, states that can fish in the waters of Cape Verde a number of 11 tuna vessels, 28 tuna seiners and 35 surface longliners, including nine from Portugal now has two more boats from the previous agreement. 

Other countries that have ships in the waters of Cape Verde are Spain (16 tuna seiners and 26 surface longliners and 7-line tuna vessels) and France (12 tuna seiners and 4 cane).

In return, the EU will pay to Cape Verde 435 000 EUR 110 000 was allocated to supporting the fisheries policy. The fee for the owners comes to 35 euros per tonne caught by tuna seiners and longliners, and 25 euros per tuna with fishing cane. The capture maximum allowed is five tons per year.

It should be noted that this agreement was initialed on December 22, 2010, and replaced another offering in exchange an amount of 385,000 euros to Cape Verde, 60,000 of which were intended to support people engaged in fishing in our country .
