Starts today the countdown to the elections

Cape Verde this Thursday marks the 20th anniversary of the first free and multiparty elections, when the country prepares to elect a new government February the 6th. Even in times of pre-election campaign, some activities will be held to commemorate the historic day.

Both in Praia and in Mindelo, the JPAI notes on the morning of Thursday the day with a series of activities, including exhibitions and demonstrations of technology products and digital. In S. Vicente, the event happens in the Plaza Nueva and the highlight will be a drawing for a laptop. Under the motto "connectivity, freedom and digital democracy toward Cape Verde," on the Beach event will be attended by Prime Minister Jose Maria Neves, who will make a statement referring to the day, at 12.00 hours, and will be seen also in S. Vicente through video conferencing.

The capital will also stage from 10.00 hours the third edition of the race of Liberty. The proof relies on the competition of the top athletes from Cape Verde and four athletes arriving from Portugal: Nuno Delgado, Neno, Ocean and Fernanda Ribeiro. Vanessa Fernandes confirmed to Semana Online, she will not be able to participate in the race.

In the afternoon, at the restaurant "Alto Astral", building of the old waterfall, recalls the day with a cultural evening. The program includes live music and a photographic exhibition entitled "The full value of freedom."

Still in S. Vicente, at the City Hall January 13 will mark the Day of Freedom and Democracy, with a colloquium up the "Constitution and the Rule of Law and Economic Freedom." It is at 10 am in the "
Salão Nobre do Paços do Concelho" there will be as speakers and Rui Figueiredo Lopes and Olavo Correia.

In Tarrafal in Santiago, the City Council honors citizens who have contributed to the county. Among them former government delegates and the first elected president, Jacinto Miranda.

In short, all over the country there are several public events on the day that the Cape Verdeans elected for the first time, through universal suffrage, direct and plural, their rulers. It was 20 years ago and since then Cape Verde continues to live in democracy, knowing that the solution of their problems lies in the hands of its citizens.
