Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau receive V-Flex financial aid from the European Union

Brussels, Belgium, 3 Sept – Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau are amongst the beneficiaries of the Flex Vulnerability (V-Flex) mechanism, aimed at some countries in the Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) block, the European Commission said in Brussels Thursday.

The Flex Vulnerability mechanism for Cape Verde totals 9 million euros this year, whilst Guinea Bissau will receive 8.5 million euros, which are added to the 8 million already received in 2009, bringing the total to 16.5 million.

The V-Flex, which is worth a total of 500 million euros in the 20009-2010 period, is activated by the European Development Fund at the request of the beneficiary and is aimed at helping developing countries to face one-off crisis situations.

The V-Flex covers 19 ACP countries. (macauhub)
