Hotel network in Cape Verde grows 9.5% in 2009

The hotels in Cape Verde has increased of 9.5% in 2009, rising to 173 establishments, which provide 6367 rooms, 11,720 beds and 14,096 seats, indicate figures released by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

The island of Santiago, where it has the capital, Praia, is the one with the highest number of tourist accommodation, with 38 (22%), followed by the Sal (35 outlets), S. Vicente (28) and S. Antao (23).

Regarding the type of accommodation, there was a greater increase in Resideciais, with seven establishments over 2008. The hotels continue to lead, with about 70.2 of the rooms, followed by pensions to 9.0%, with the remainder being shared between different types of accommodation.

The INE inventory also realize that the establishments with a majority of private domestic capital continue to be the most representative, with about 69.9% of the total. The number of hotel establishments with national participation has grown 13.1% over the previous year, while the majority foreign participation in the increase was 2.5%.

With regard to staff at the end of 2009, hotel inventory employed 4120 people, representing an increase of 1.0% from the year 2008. The hotels continue to employ more people, representing 73.3% of total staff, followed by pensions (8.6%) and resorts (7.7%).

For services offered in hotels, in 2009, 96.2% of the rooms offer private baths with hot and cold water, 89.9% with television, air conditioning 81.0% and 80.1% telephone.
