Earthquake in Haiti: Government extends its condolences

The Government of Cape Verde, the disaster of seismic origin that struck Haiti in the early hours of 12 January, and after examining the situation in that country, at a meeting of the Council of Ministers, presented on behalf of the nation of Cape Verde The most heartfelt condolences to the people of Haiti.
Shocked after reading and following the news and information officers who gradually realize the magnitude of human and material losses as a result of this disaster, the Government joins the international community to support and strengthen the solidarity of the people of Haiti has been target for the latter this time of pain for all its members.

This, by the loss of life and destruction of much of the city, refute the reconstruction effort underway in that benighted country following recent political events that led to Haiti on the brink of a civil conflict that determined the presence of MINUSTAH ( Mission peacekeeping UN in Haiti).

The Government expresses also his feelings of sadness to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, as well as friendly countries, including Brazil, the human loss that occurred within the peacekeepers and other civilian officials present in Haiti.

It should be noted that the strong earthquake, in fact, caused huge numbers that now total to 100 thousand deaths, among which are also dozens of officials and soldiers of the United Nation who were on a mission of peace in that country, for and thousands of displaced persons and serious damages, especially in the devastated capital city of Port-au-Prince.
