Cape Verdean government prepares to draw up second Millennium Challenge Account compact

Praia, Cape Verde, 8 Jan – The Cape Verdean government will begin the process of consulting various social partners prior to MillenniumChallengeCorporation1 drafting the proposal for the second Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) compact, Presidency Minister Janira Hopffer Almada has stated.

The aim is to draft a consensus proposal which can benefit all regions of the country, Almada told Cape Verde’s Inforpress agency in Praia.

The government plans to meet with all municipal councils, unions, businessmen, political parties and civil society representatives to collect subsidies in order to present better projects than the first time, further boosting the country’s development, she said.

“With this second package the government intends to make Cape Verde an increasingly competitive country, more modern and with less disparity between islands,” the Council of Ministers Presidency minister stressed.

The Cape Verdean government has until October 2010 to present the proposal to the US government via the Millennium Challenge Account, after which the negotiation process will begin with the Millennium Challenge Corporation. (macauhub)
