DOMESTIC FLIGHTS

In all the cases, probably, "overpaid" tickets that will be offered at a price plus (+ taxes frequently which in reality do not exist). If your trip does not take place in peak season (Christmas / New Year, Easter, July and August) you may want to buy domestic flights directly at the airport of arrival in Cape Verde, the international flight. Be prepared in case of you fly in peak season to encounter problems, like over bookings and delayed flights.

With TACV, until recently it was possible to make a booking of domestic flights by sending an e-mail directly to: reservas@tacv.aero
In theory it is still possible if not that, instead of quietly withdrawing your ticket on arrival at Sal (as you did before), now you must pay the ticket and collect it within 48 hours of booking.

The flights of the TACV (Cabo Verde Airlines) connect all the islands (excluding S. Antao and Brava) ATR42/72 with 70 seats. Until a few years ago also had a Twin Otter with which connected S. Antao.

The trips last from a minimum of 15-20 minutes for short flights (Sal-Boavista / Praia-Maio) to a maximum of 55 minutes for the most distant islands. They cost a maximum of just over 100 euros for longer flights (Praia-Sal / Sal-Sao Vicente / Praia-Sao Vicente) to a minimum of about 50 euros for the shorter (Praia-Maio / Sal-Boavista) .
Return about twice as high.

AIRPASS TACV

Only those traveling with the international flight TACV can buy in their country, or Cape Verde, a package of more flights with a big discount. The price is very convenient but remember that you should establish in advance the date and, if necessary, you may find it difficult to change flights.
Be aware that: the Airpass is convenient, especially if you choose long flight.

Remember that:

- you should reconfirm your flight a few days before departure;
- flights often do not respect the timetable established: it is therefore good practice to ask for confirmation of even the day before;
- you must present at least an hour and a half hours before scheduled departure (it may actually happen that starts before the plane indicated on the ticket);
- often the flight you have booked will be late, sometimes it will be deleted at the last minute, and sometimes it will stop on an island, which is not on your route before you bring a destination.

Even tho Cabo Verde is far from the “African standards” be prepared and try to rest calm…. Remember you are are still in an African country.

MARITIME TRANSPORT

The only transport by sea on daily basis are those that link in about an hour, Mindelo (S. Vicente) in Porto Novo (S. Antao) and vice versa.
All other shipping, absolutely unreliable in the schedules and frequencies, are reserved only for those who have much time available and this explains it all.
Even the regular published schedules are simply a manifestation of good will in reality this is not going to happen and most probably that is regularly rejected, even at the last minute.
However travelling by boat has its own charm and we recommend you that when you are in Cabo Verde, to assess the feasibility of using this means of transport.
The costs are significantly lower than our flights and depend on the ship that will be available. We can say that a passage, in the case of the longest trips, does not exceed 30 euros (a little more if you want to travel in the cabin).
Ask where to stay, the place where you can find information, schedules and tickets.

LAND TRASPORTATION

The only urban transport (real economic) can be found in Praia (Santiago) and Mindelo (S. Vicente).
On all islands there are moves by public transport (usually minibuses, known as "aluguer" or "Iass" which have neither stopped nor pre-set times: when there are reasonably full), with taxis or renting a car.
For taxis and aluguer, if you do not know the price, agree it before boarding.
