The "saudade" of Cabo Verde

Although the name, in Cabo Verde does not rain enough, and the country suffers, drought. Life here has never been easy. It is said that there are more emigrants around the world than those who remained, for this reason there’s "Cabo Verde diaspora."

But the capoverdean love their land, both those who have had to go as much as those who chose to remain. It is a mixture of people of different races, Catholics, Portuguese, and with all the "saudade" that Brazil has expressed in their traditional music.

Tourism is an important economic resource for the country. Nevertheless, Cape Verde was not sold mass tourism, made up of large massive hotels, but opted for a medium tourism environment orienteted.

If you are interested in a trip to Cabe Verde, you can easily reach the islands by flying to Portugal, or contacting a growing number of charter flights. On the Internet there are sites that offer different types of stay, tourist sites, the possibility of contacting local guides, etc..

Be aware once you will go to Cabo Verde it will not be easy to come back to your own country you will be affected by the most knowna nd common disease of the isalands.....MORABEZA!

The word "Morabeza"

The word morabeza (pronounced [moɾɐ'bɛzɐ]) is taken as a noun derived from the adjective morabeza (supposedly lovable in Portuguese). The word morabeza (pronounced [mo'ɾabi]) means "gentle, friendly, attentive (a), delicate (a), gentle, nice (a), affectionate (a). While the suffix-abi to form adjectives is rare in Creole (morabeza, pussibi, terribi), the suffix-eza to form nouns is very frequent in Creole (brabeza, bunit, coitadeza, minina, runheza, sperteza, tchefreza, etc.).. The morabeza is taken by Cape Verde as something difficult to translate (as the word saudade in Portuguese) and expresses a typical sentiment for Cabe Verde, similar (but not expressed in the same way) to "osprindadi" in Guinea-Bissau and Senegal Teranga .

If I allow a correction, the word is not a regionalism morabeza island of Brava, it exists in all variants of Creole. The morabeza is often associated with the island of Brava because people are considered the most affected by morabeza in Cabo Verde.

We don't really know if the word is already part of the vocabulary of the Portuguese language. A few words of Creole have been already adapted to Portuguese (for example: "cachupa" ). We are not aware of the existence of morabeza word in the vocabulary of the Portuguese language.
